Well, it’s time to fess up and let you know that I’ve been quietly working on a new book for the past couple of years now, one – I couldn’t be more certain – that’s right up your alley. More in a moment, so hold onto your seats.
I don’t feel bad about being mum on the subject, but I do take some heat now and then for being so tight lipped where my writing projects are concerned. They tell me my silence will mean missed sales and visibility, they being the legions of young authors across all genres these days who start tweeting, Facebooking and high-fiving over their future books from the time, approximately, that they enter kindergarten.
But that’s not my style. I want to make it into the end zone before I spike the ball and start doing my little touchdown dance.
Besides, it would have been real embarrassing if I’d have turned into a social media animal and my new book pulled into the station without me. I hate it when that happens.
Anyway, about that book: had I not supplied that cover photo above you might be thinking it was a new pie book. But as you can see I’ve cast my net quite a bit wider this time around.
There are a handful of pies in my new book, The Harvest Baker, but they’re just the tip of this gorgeous iceberg, a 300-page volume dedicated to celebrating the harvest in all of our baking, from biscuits, scones and muffins, to soda breads, yeast loaves, pizzas, calzones, cakes and cookies. The whole baking enchilada, with fresh produce at the center of it all.
I could go on and on about The Harvest Baker; I’ve never felt more in love with one of my own cookbooks. But what matters most to me is how you feel about it.
So I’ve put together a special preview for you, a 10-page excerpt that you can peruse at your leisure. Read the preface, drool over the stunning photos – and I do mean stunning – and let me know what you think. I’m anxious to hear. Scroll all the way to the end of the preview because there’s a special pre-publication offer you won’t want to miss.

(Update: After posting the original preview below, some of you emailed to say you’d like to see an actual recipe from The Harvest Baker, not just photos. Of course; my bad! Hence, the second preview – Take Two – with an additional photo and recipe you can bake from.)
