Hear ye, all pie lovers – we’re ready to announce the dates for this coming fall’s highly anticipated Lowcountry Pie Getaway, to be held once again in Charleston, South Carolina.
We considered other states, other venues, but when all was said and done we simply couldn’t find another location that offered a such an incredible kitchen for our classes, in a more beautiful location, or friendlier town than Charleston.
That, and the fact that those of you who couldn’t attend last year’s Getaway, but desperately wanted to, would be crushed if we up and changed the host city. As would last year’s attendees who have been begging for an encore. So Charleston it is.
Now, without further delay the dates for 2016’s Lowcountry Pie Getaway are October 21st, 22nd, and 23rd – a couple of weeks later than last year, but still in one of Charleston’s most glorious months.
The 2015 Lowcountry Pie Getaway was a unique experience and one that I would highly recommend! Ken is a superlative teacher, ably demonstrating tried-and-true methods that take the mystery out of pie making. Under his instruction, our class of both novice and experienced pie makers turned out a wealth of savory and sweet pies that were both delicious to eat and beautiful to behold. Add to this the charm of Charleston, and you have a winner! – D. Simmons
We’re nailing down the final details – cost, curriculum, guest chef for our send-off dinner, etc – but we do know, as in previous years, there will be a Friday evening reception on the 21st so we can get acquainted with one another and hand out your swag bags – a now-favorite ritual that’s akin to Christmas in October.
Saturday and Sunday will be our pie baking days, with classes scheduled to allow ample time on the town for shopping and taking in the sites.
It would be a shame to travel to Charleston without building in extra time to explore the Lowcountry, so we suggest – as many of last year’s attendees did – padding your Getaway with a couple of extra days for fun and adventure. There’s so much to do in the area that you’d need weeks just to scratch the surface.
By next week we’ll be ready to announce all the particulars, but we hope that by announcing the dates now you’ll have a chance to start thinking about your options for flights and accommodations. Space will be limited. In case you need it, the address for our host facility – where we’ll be doing all of our baking – is 164 Market St, Charleston. It’s a wonderful, central downtown location.
In case you missed it, here’s the write up from last year’s Lowcountry Pie Getaway to whet your appetite for this year’s event.
